Mesotherapy consists of shallow injections into the tissue in order to stimulate the mesoderm which blocks pain and relieves symptoms by short-circuiting the hyper-stimulated pain-sensing nerves and resets their threshold to pre-injury level. Mesotherapy manipulates the spinal thalamic tract, which inhibits the horse’s pain perception and allows for rehabilitation of back, pelvic and neck pain.
Dr. Mitch commonly uses this modality in conjunction with more conventional treatments. Because often, local, pain-sensing nerves become hyper-stimulated after an injury, which effectively lowers the pain threshold for the injured region. So commonly, while we can successfully treat the condition which originally caused the pain, the body will continue to respond painfully.
